Japanese Ship Launching Commemorative Case

Here is a ship launching commeorative case. It is post-war and is high-quality with heavy wood and a nicely detailed center plaque. This kind of item was probably sold at the launching ceremony and perhaps before and after at various local department stores. However, it is possible that these types of items were available in small quantities throughout Japan just as the Japan Mint commemorative medallions were. The latter were sold at department stores, so I am guessing that this kind of case was on sale there, too.

Here is the case and a few pictures. Details follow.

The inside of the case is inscribed ‘Mitsubishi Naval Transport Corporation, Orinpia Maru Launching Commemorative, Showa 27 [1952] March 26, Naka-Nippon Industries Corporation.’

I have no information on this vessel. The name seems to be a popular one.
